We have already mentioned that all our original mandates from 1976 still stand today. We are proud of this legacy and honour the work done at our Associations inception. But we would be remiss if we didn’t point out that it also historically speaks to the genuine fact of integrity and respect in our founding members for the public and consumers.
One of our Association’s specific points in the inaugural Statements of Purpose for the organization remains a high priority for us to this day.
“To promote a better understanding and appreciation of the Canadian down and feather industry as a whole, on the part of the public”
Our goal has always been to help consumers learn about the wonderful, natural material of down and feather. Learn about the various natural properties, sustainability, longevity and the industry definitions. This is important in order to help consumers make a knowledgeable purchase decision. A purchase choice that is the best one for their needs and lifestyle. Our website is filled with information to assist consumers in gaining a better understanding of the choices they have.
Another way to aid consumers was that our Association started its own program within the industry called the "Market Minder", which was later changed to the "Market Monitor". It is now named “Down√Check”. Our program continually monitors products in the marketplace with respect to quality, incorrect labeling and product advertising. If claims are found to be false, or misleading, then the appropriate government officials are notified and they undergo their own investigation. We are not privy to their investigations but in some cases, it may lead to products being repackaged, or the substandard products being pulled from shelves. It is our hope that the information found for types of mis-representations will help consumers spot mis-truths or possible falsities in product representations
